Take strength from your intimates, she told herself.
“You are difficult to forget.” “Well, you could’ve fooled me.” “One does not forget a stunning woman with eyes like garnets.”
He might have meant pretty.
That’s my handkerchief.
You never stop being who you were, do you? You may be here of the novel that is your life, but that doesn’t mean here no longer exists. Pen and I had a lot of pages together in the early chapters, so it’s weird being here with him all of a sudden in the middle of the book.”
“How could you make anything worse?”
“Fuck my life,” she muttered a half second before a bolt of lightning struck her and she died for the third time in a week and a half.
she glanced up from Adam’s place setting and realized what had been distracting him: a brassiere and matching panties in buttery soft yellow satin and copious amounts of lace, dangling from the fireplace mantel.
And what’s not to love about a hero who spends ninety percent of the book pining away in wretched desperation?”
“You enjoy a man’s yearning and suffering?”
“Rosie.”
In a world where women were supposed to be small and men were supposed to be strong, Rosie had spent too much of her life bemoaning the fact that she towered over everyone she had ever dated, when what she really needed was a guy who was as vast on the inside as she was on the outside.
“Because I’d rather be stuck in here with you than stuck out there without you, you fucking asshole.”
This was how her father saw her, a sweet and fragile child in a large and uncertain world.
