In a world where women were supposed to be small and men were supposed to be strong, Rosie had spent too much of her life bemoaning the fact that she towered over everyone she had ever dated, when what she really needed was a guy who was as vast on the inside as she was on the outside.
“Because I’d rather be stuck in here with you than stuck out there without you, you fucking asshole.”
“What does that mean?” she asked him. “I called you a fool.” “Really? It sounded so nice.” “It literally means ‘You are a soft cantaloupe.’”
“How is this hard to understand? I’m in love with you, you soft cantaloupe.”
“So I’m basically fertilizer for the Love Plant.” “I’m sure we could land on a more romantic metaphor.”
“You’re not the boss of me.” “Yes, I am.” “Yes, you are,” he agreed,
“No one is better than you, because no one else is you.” He loosened her plaits as he spoke, combing his fingers through her not-red hair. “It’s true that I have fucked many people, many times, in many ways. I have fucked every kind of person imaginable—every size, every shape, every nationality, every gender, and of every persuasion under the altar of the sky. I have fucked my way through entire years of my life simply to forget the fact that I cannot die. But I promise you, my ruzhkel, I have never made love with someone before now.”
“You can’t get pregnant?” “No, I’m afraid that I cannot.”
“I love you for many reasons, your terrible jokes included.”
“Perhaps kings and gods make better kings and gods than parents.”
“This is what a god’s love looks like, Rosa-loo.”
“You do realize that the words coming out of your mouth constitute foreplay, right?” “I could make you a sandwich, and that would constitute foreplay,”
