also, side note: this is just my personal opinion but if the dad is rough on the brother, too, it seems a little unrealistic that the siblings would be at ends with one another without a decent, PERSONAL reason.
This just seems like a reason to victimize the fmc for no reason and make her seem (for lack of a better word) pathetic.
