Who would have thought that underneath the duke’s crusty exterior, he was a gooey puddle of sweet jam? And she wanted to slather him all over a biscuit. Goodness. She had to get a hold of herself.
“You may call me Robert,” he said, forcing the words. “We are family, are we not?”
“No retort?” He quirked a brow. “That is most unlike you. Are you unsettled?” He leaned down again, his lips teasing her jaw until they paused just below her mouth. “Tell me to stop, Duchess.”
He tilted his head, rolling his eyes. The man was a treasure chest of reactions today.
We fear the opposite ends of the same problem. To care or not to care.
