If the market, or your stock, is in an uptrend, you buy (the “follow the trend” strategy). If the market is in a downtrend, move to cash (or sell short) and wait for the next uptrend. This is easier said than done, but it works remarkably well—that is, if you correctly identify the trend, and if you have the patience to hold during choppy market conditions.
