Once you have a diversified portfolio, you have to decide what percentage of your money you want to allocate (or distribute) to each investment. For example, if you are 30 years away from retirement, you could invest 65 percent in individual stocks and mutual funds and 25 percent in bonds, and keep 10 percent in cash.
