Every time I start to feel happy, I get a call from my mother.
She was mine before and it’s time to make her mine again, because I was always hers. I have been since day one.
I would’ve been there even if I had to crawl to get to her.
“You could be on my arm, in a twenty-thousand-dollar dress, and no one would know that you could take them out in seconds. Beautiful. Violent. Deadly.”
“I don’t want a soldier. I want you. Anyone can pick up a gun. You? You don’t need a weapon to become one.” A soft smile curves his lips. “Although, I hear you’re exceptional with one.” He winks. “I take credit for it, of course.”
“My little Lieverd.” He appraises me with a beaming smile. “The best female sniper the world has ever seen.”
Every time I see her, she disarms me. The word breathtaking was made for her.
I just want to lean over and kiss her. I think that would fix every bad thing that’s happened these last ten years.
“Uh, am I riding with you?” His eyes brighten. “Take out the with and it’s an enthusiastic yes.” “What?” “Nothing.”
Mathijs’s hands land on either side of my head, and a laugh bubbles out of him as he presses a kiss against my temple. “Ik ben duizend keer voor je gevallen, Lieverd.”
“I’m a respectable man, darling,” he says, voice hoarse like he’s barely holding on. “And you make me want to do things to you that will make me lose that title.”
“Ik kan niet zonder jou.”
His lips are on me. His hands. His eyes. Every single part of him moves like it belongs to me. Like it always has, and he’s begging me to see it.
“I suggest you let me go. Not many people can piss my wife off and live to tell the tale. She has a bit of a protective streak.”
