I still can’t wrap my head around that asshole not showing for their date, because I took one look at Vanessa and wanted to crawl across the restaurant.
“I think your friends are trying to get your attention.” I never look away from her. “Too bad. My attention is elsewhere right now.”
“Why are you surprised? You saw it last night.” I finally swallow my shock and lock eyes with her. “I was looking at you last night.”
“Ryder ‘Hot Waiter’?” I ask, raising an eyebrow as I hold my phone up. “Is that seriously how you just listed yourself?” Grinning shamelessly, he slides his hands into his pockets with a shrug. “I didn’t want you to confuse me with the other Ryders.” And maybe it’s the hot sun, or maybe it’s Ryder’s presence, but I hold our eye contact as I admit, “There are no other Ryders.” Something flashes in his eyes at that, something I like way too much. When he speaks, his voice sounds like it’s been scraped over the rocky beach. “Good.”
“I need you,” she begs between kisses. “Please, I need you.” “You have me,” I assure her, kissing her back. “I’m yours.”
“Your pants are on fire,” I answer with a straight face.
What is a day like without Ryder in it? Less laughter? Less sunshine?
I haven’t gotten lost in Ryder. I’ve found myself with him.
“And I don’t want any more distance between us.”
