Standing a little under five-three, Dawson was a force of nature. She was renowned for her hardy approach to challenges in the field. Once on Ellesmere Island, she and a colleague were hunting for fossils along a rocky hillside set along a broad valley. The two noticed six white dots meandering in their general direction. As the images came closer, it became obvious that these were six Arctic wolves on the hunt. Stalking the two paleontologists, the wolves ultimately encircled them.
