The trouble with trouble is that it usually starts out as fun.” ––Anonymous
A girl like you should have a whole army’a family at your back keepin’ ya safe and makin’ ya promises they always intend to fuckin’ keep.”
“I knew the moment I saw you that you were trouble.” “The best kind,” I agreed. “What’s reward without a little risk?”
“You wanna call me a criminal, I can’t stop ya, but I wish you’d think’a me like somethin’ less defined. Like twilight between day and night. I got darkness in me, Blue. Don’t have to tell ya that after what you saw in Beaker’s trailer. But I got light too, a fuck ton’a it. Maybe the ratio’s too close for comfort, but I thought for a second you were the kinda girl who found more comfort in chaos than in what others think is right.”
“The kinda love that redefines what it means to be alive is the kinda love that doesn’t come cheap. You gotta earn it, man, and sometimes that means bein’ patient, and sometimes that means fightin’ for it. If you really think Blue’s that woman for you, you gotta trust that you’ll see her again and ’til then gotta live life knowin’ she’d want you to be happy. Maybe that’s why she left in the first place.”
The girl who used make-up and hair and clothes like both an armour and a canvas to show the world exactly who I wanted to be. Brave, bold, beautiful.
He was a supernova or a daytime eclipse, something so outlandishly magical it was impossible to look away. So I stopped trying.
“Now in the dark, tomorrow in the light. Painted in neons or sunlight or starlight, you’re mine, Blue. You get me?”
“You could say that. All’a us have felt broken at some point in our lives, maybe even wondered if it’s worth it to go on. We’ve been disillusioned and lost, and the club gives people a purpose to tether them and a long lead to give them the slack they need to recover on their own terms. No one here has to be any one way or one kinda person. The lines are blurred ’cause we all learned the hard way that life’s painted in shades’a grey instead’a black and white.”
“I’m in love,” I told him. “Head, heart and dick. The trifecta.”
“All my life, I’ve fought to find beauty in the chaos, to be happy even, and especially, in the hard times ’cause if I waited for the good, I’d be sad most’a the time. I didn’t even realize how lonely I still was ’til I saw your colour blue and knew I needed it brightenin’ my life.”
