The attendant tilted his head when I grinned. “One day, your house will protect the heirs with the true claim to that ring,” I whispered, speaking only to the attendant.
“Do you know what it’s like to watch the light of your soul die over and over? Do you know what it’s like to burn for lifetimes for another who fears you in the end?”
A song of sorrow and fate tied us together and kept us apart in the same breath.
“Say the word, Silas,” I whispered, tilting my head, “and I would follow you through the lifetimes.”
Because our souls were tethered. They’d fought centuries to reunite, and it felt like the whole world was shifting under the collision.

But when there is power to the words, we ought to hold them close for later.
“To the Otherworld, Whisper.”
“There is a tale here.”
“Your story is only beginning. Take care with the hearts you claim.”
