I thanked my ADHD and my proclivity to forget everyone who wasn’t directly in front of my face.
“Aren’t demons and vampires the same thing?” Willow shook her head. “Common misconception. Demons give off more finance-bro vibes. Vampires give off more Victorian-royalty-who-wants-to-drink-your-blood vibes.”
“I’m surprised vampires and demons are early birds,” I whispered to my sister as I refilled the napkin dispensers. “They come in later,” she said, as if that were common knowledge. “And no paranormal talk in front of mixed company.” She nodded to a family in a corner booth who looked like they’d walked out of the pages of an L.L.Bean catalog. All that was missing was a white picket fence and a yellow lab.
“She should stay awake, right? I don’t know vampire CPR!” “She probably just fed off a drunk person,” my sister said. “That’s not what this is!” “Well, I’m sorry I missed the vampire episode of Grey’s Anatomy!” I shouted. “I don’t know what to do!”
I looked up just as Jordyn averted her gaze from mine. I had a terrible feeling our date was off. Nothing like accidentally killing a local to ruin the mood.
