“Did I burn you?” I whispered. Samkiel didn’t even open his eyes. He just wrapped his hand around the back of my neck and said, “Burn me alive if you must. I’d gladly die by your kiss.”

“Time itself cannot touch it. Death cannot separate it. It is the most powerful force in the world, far outweighing any crown or throne. Immeasurable. Inescapable. All-consuming. It is past want or need. Its only wish is to consume those who share it. Why wouldn’t one wish for it? Everything loves something, even the cruelest among us. I think it would be the definition of tragedy never to feel love at all.”
“Shall I tell you that if the ancients asked me of love, I’d merely have to whisper your name?”

We were all shaped by our experiences, but at some point, we had to decide what it made us, what kind of sharp instrument it turned us into. Perhaps true strength lies in the moments when the world tosses us into the fire and we emerge unscathed. Anger and hate came easily, but kindness after the world tried to break you was a mark of true strength.
He tossed his arms up in disgust. “The world around us is on fire, and you two are shoving your tongues down each other’s throats. I’m honestly not the least bit shocked.” Dianna smiles at him before popping me on my shoulder. “It’s his fault! He keeps saying pretty words and distracting me,” she hissed.

“Are you not hungry?” I asked, looking up at him. “I just ate,” he said smugly.
