I want so much to be everything that you need, everything that you want, and everything that I know I can be. But I can’t. And I don’t exactly know why.” His eyes flick back to me, and there is the sadness that I saw earlier. “You’re scared,” I say, taking another sip of my water. Trying to keep the conversation casual, so he doesn’t feel pressed to open up. “Of what?” I ask, sitting back. “Losing you.”
