Enzo was silent. ‘Anyway,’ she said hurriedly, ‘the statue. Whoever carved it knew love. And knew it deeply, to produce such art.’ He looked at the statue briefly, then turned back to her. ‘Or maybe they didn’t know it at all, but craved it the way one craves air to breathe.’
Enzo let out a harsh breath of impatience. ‘I do not just tolerate you, Elara. You are my favourite part of the day.’
‘You’re the most beautiful woman anywhere. But that wasn’t enough to say. To tell you that you look beautiful seemed a lazy way to describe how you look.’ His eyes searched hers then he huffed a laugh. ‘So I didn’t want to tell you that you looked beautiful.
