Because nothing lasts forever, you know. Not even goodbyes. Welcome home.
Emmy and Teddy weren’t a duo that you wanted to mess with—especially if they had a common goal. If they had their heart set on ruining that guy’s life, it’d be done by tomorrow.
He’d always been able to make me laugh, even when I didn’t want to.
“Stop flirting with me while I’m still in my wedding dress.” Leave it to Dusty to make me feel comfortable enough to make a joke about something that should not be remotely funny yet. “We better get you out of it then.”
“Ash,” I said more firmly. Her eyes flicked up to mine like they couldn’t help it. “You didn’t deserve that.” Cam always thought everything was her fault. I knew the way she was probably talking to herself in her head, and it made my teeth clench. “I need to know that you know you didn’t deserve that.”
Every time I looked at my daughter, I got overwhelmed. I couldn’t believe she existed and that she was mine. I couldn’t believe something so smart and tenacious and clever came from me. And I wanted to make sure I could give her everything.
“I haven’t stopped thinking about kissing you,” Dusty said again. This time, his gray eyes were on mine. “I think about it all the time, actually. I think there’s something wrong with me. “I think about you when I wake up and when I go to sleep. During the day, you just stand at the front of my brain, and I can’t shake it. When I’m with you, I don’t want it to end, and when I’m not, I just want to see you again.
Dusty put a hand on my cheek and looked straight into my soul. “I’ll love you until we’re dust, Camille Ashwood.”
“You mean in case I ever forced you to come with me?” Dusty shook his head. “No. You’re a privilege, Cam. Being in your presence is a goddamn honor.”
There he was. The love of my life. My light in the dark. My safe place. My home. Luke Brooks.
