Always make people feel like they’re the ones in control. It will make it all the more tempting when they realize, they’re not.
emotions do nothing but cloud judgement.
But is it really much of a surprise that the daughter of a serial killer would spend her whole life trying to be good?
He’s a beauty, a Harley Davidson Sportster and yes, he’s a he because personally, I like riding men.
“Is it just me or do you not like anyone who knows more than you?”
Jude twirls my hairband round his finger. “I say we keep her.” “Keep me? I’m not a dog.” Eli eyes me up and down. “True, you’re more like a kitten. All ginger and feisty.”
Don’t just tell the lie, tell the truth in the lie.
emotions make people stupid.”
“Are we forgoing jail time and heading straight for corporal punishment?”
“And Freya,” he says quietly, “if I were going to spank you, I wouldn’t use a hairbrush. I’d use my bare hand. And the imprint would mark your pretty pale skin for hours.”
“I wonder what the rules are for fraternizing with an asset because if River’s going to go there, I am most definitely throwing my hat in the ring.”
It started when I was seven. One cross for every year I’d been alive, like some sort of twisted birthday candles.”
Great, not only have I been arrested by the FBI team I most admire, I’m now lusting after all four of them.
“You think we need pretty?” I ask. “You think after all we’ve seen, all we’ve done that we want soft, perfect, fragile?” I ease her shirt up a little bit. “We want tough. Strong. A fighter.”
“Don’t get me wrong, Angel, you’re gorgeous. Stunning. But any scars you’ve got aren’t going to take away from that. They’ll only add to it. Because in our world, staying alive, is sexy as hell.”
He cut her like he made her cut his victims. Eight crosses, four on either side of her torso. Those are the worst scars, the skin raised and pink. You’d have to cut deep to get scars like that. Or repeatedly cut in the same place.
It would be bad enough if that was all, but the rest of her is littered with thin pink and white lines. The biggest one sweeps in a vicious curve down from between her breasts to the edge of her hip. There’s more scarred skin than not and the way some of the lines curve round her side has me thinking her back didn’t get away unscathed.
“You’re not a fighter. You’re a warrior.”
Freya is mine. And I will never let anyone hurt her ever again.
“Scottish on his dad’s side. The accent comes out in the bedroom,” he says.
“We’re not saints, Freya, but we’re also not players. This isn’t going to be a one off, meaningless thing. Sharing you with Oz makes this more serious to me, not less.”
“I think we need to set some ground rules, darling. As sweet as it is to hear you beg,” he leans close, “You call me sir when I’m inside of you.”
I know technically I’m the genius here, but you’d think even someone as emotionally stunted as you would realize seducing someone is not a morally okay way to get information.”
“Hey, just because you ditched me for the FBI doesn’t mean I’m going to ignore an SOS.”
“Seriously, do you need to get out of here? Because I parked down the road in case we needed to pull a Bonnie and Clyde.”
“I’m a detective, Freya. You’re the right age. You’ve told me nothing about your childhood and you have a weird obsession with the Maxwell case. I put two and two together a while ago.”
I’m not sure whether this woman is angel or demon.
“Stop trying to top from the bottom,”
“I need your words, babygirl. I’m about to ruin this pretty little pussy so I need to know you’re on board with that.”
“She’s not cute. She’s vicious.”
“I thought you liked women with claws.” “Yeah, when they scratch my back, not when they tear my fucking soul to shreds.”
“All your patients are dead.” “Well, apparently so’s your soul, so we should be good.”
“Trust isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about believing in that person anyway.”
If I’d have known food was the key to her heart, I’d have been feeding her gourmet meals every day.
You did what you had to do to survive. Don’t let River, Eli or your own damn brain trick yourself into thinking you had a choice, because you didn’t.”
“Take off your shirt, look in a mirror and tell me again you didn’t fight him.”
“What are you doing?” “Telling Jude exactly what River and Eli did and making it clear I’m on his side if he wants to go a few rounds with them.”
Why learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from others.”
Holy shit. He’s going to fuck me into submission.
“Pick a safe word, darling.”
“Unless the next word out of your mouth is going to be melon, lower your head back to the bed and shut up.”
“You know patience is a virtue,” he says. I scowl. “Patience is for suckers.”
“Trust doesn’t come easy to me Freya, but when you have it, you’ve got it for good.”
“I don’t like that you’re hiding things from me, but I understand that sometimes secrets need to be kept for a reason.”
They’ll never forgive me. But I’d rather be sitting in a prison cell with Oz alive, than be the reason River, Jude and Eli lose a brother.
“When we find her, I’m going to tie that goddamn self-sacrificing brat to my bed and never let her go.”
she likes to pretend she’s only one person when actually she’s two. She’s me and her and I am her and me.”
“You’re not supposed to break a promise. I haven’t broken mine. That’s why he’s mad.”
“Me. I’m broken. She made me promise not to kill anybody, but daddy doesn’t like that.”
I don’t care what happens to me. I will do anything. I will take all the torture. I will die if it means Freya is safe.
