It wasn’t as if this brief exchange of messages made me see her all that differently, but it made me suspect that she saw the dissolution of our friendship differently. I also suspected that she didn’t see herself as the heroine of a fairy tale in which six out of six men fell in love with her—that this was only the way I perceived things.
