“For vests,” she said, eyeing mine. “But I’m not your type,” I shot back. She smirked. “You’re only slightly less not my type in a vest. But don’t worry, Dom. I promise to resist you.”
He wore low slung jeans and a tight long-sleeve tee. And a vest. I beamed. Dominic gave my leg a nudge under the table with his own. “Try to control yourself,” he muttered dryly before standing and shaking the designer’s hand.
“Maybe if you take some pictures, you’ll be too busy to drool over the designer,” he growled. I smiled up at him just to annoy him. “Doubtful, Dom. Very doubtful.”
I wrapped the tie around my hair and gave it a tug. “I don’t hate you, Ally.” His voice was quiet, gruff.
“Good. Because frankly, I’m irresistible, and you might as well just give up the fight now.” “I can’t afford to find you irresistible,” he said. We weren’t touching. But it felt like the space between us was charged with something. It was acting like a defibrillator on my heart.
He leaned in and down, and for one split second, I thought that those firm lips were going to crush mine in the kind of kiss that no one survives. But he reached past me, then straightened. “Here,” he said, handing me the headphones I’d left on the desk.
All I could picture was bending her over the railing and dragging that flirty little skirt up to her waist. I’d made it back to my office, locked myself in the washroom, and masturbated violently while thinking about her.
Today, I was keeping my fucking hands off my fucking cock and my fucking mind off fucking Ally. End of story.
“Just remember, Dom. You started it.” She walked out, and Harry and I watched her go. “Who was that?” he demanded. “No one. Let’s go.”
Harry was silent, and I looked up. He was sniffing the air. “You smell that?” he asked. I knew where this was going. “I do not.” “I do. It’s strong. Here. Let me waft it toward you,” he said, flicking his hands at me. “That’s the smell of bullshit.”
“I’m attracted to you, Ally. Very attracted,” he said, his voice low and rough. Oh, lord. Sex hormones dumped into my bloodstream so quickly I felt lightheaded.
“I’ll be doing what I’ve been doing since I met you,” he rasped. “What’s that?” “Fucking my goddamn hand and wishing it was you.” And there went my knees, buckling under me.
“Dominic.” “Kiss me, Ally. Let me make you feel better.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I said softly. If he kissed me now, when my heart was already in a million little pieces, I was going to do something really stupid… like fall in love with the man. “Let me,” he said, his voice grave.
“I don’t know if I can walk away when I need to,” I confessed, the panic rising up in me. “We’re past walking away, Ally.”
She was spectacular. Naked in the city lights with snow falling behind her. Ally Morales was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen in my entire life.
