Oh, the horror of this gold, ornate and cold, Framing stars plucked and clipped and sold. The painting cracks and fades, bleeding glitter, While little men ask, “Why isn’t it any fitter?”
“You hate everyone,” Isobel said, too tired to care that Oscar was being a big, snarling bully. “I like you.” The words were a scrape of gravel, utterly without warmth. They still made her stomach burn, her skin tingling with pleasure.
“Okay, we get the point,” he snapped. “That you’re basically the Taylor Swift of Ironside?” Isobel wasn’t deterred. “Got a whole squad and everything.”
Oscar: Am I alive or is this hell? Oscar: Daily conundrum. Theodore: Why are you so emo?
Isobel: Will you remember me? Theodore: I’ve never actually seen Eli panic before. Where you at, E? Send us a picture. Elijah: If you want to be my girlfriend, there are better ways of asking. Theodore: Who, me? Elijah: I violently resent the pep in your step this morning. Theodore: Keep that up and I won’t want to be your girlfriend much longer.
Elijah: We’re busy this period. Gabriel: He means he and I are busy. Elijah: Who else would I mean? Moses: It’s hard to see anyone else when you’re in love.
Theodore: My tastes go beyond Sigmas. Isobel: Do they? Elijah: I’ve never seen Theo panic before. Send me a pic, T. Theodore: Shut up. Theodore: And yes. Isobel: What are these tastes? Kilian: Are you jealous, baby? Elijah: No, she’s fucking with him.
Oscar: Stop flirting in the group chat. Isobel: That was fighting. Oscar: As I said.
Isobel, whose cheeks began to burn, ignored him, keeping her attention on Elijah. “Not fondue. Souls, maybe.” “Souls,” he repeated dryly. “And tears,” she added. “And dreams. And hopes.” “Tears and dreams and hopes,” he parroted. “Right.” “You look like you’d eat me alive.” When his expression suddenly went blank, she let her smile break free, battering her lashes at him. “That, Mr Reed, is how you flirt.”
“My personality,” Gabriel answered, the tilt to his lip evening out, his expression as frighteningly blank as ever. “That’s what kept her around.” “Oh?” Both of Isobel’s brows shot up this time. “Can I see it?” He chuckled, rising suddenly. “Come here, puppy.”
Moses, Oscar, and Niko had all been immediately disqualified for hitting the actors who tried to jump out and scare them.
Moses snorted. “Lord, give us strength.” “The only thing any lord is giving you is a pitchfork,” Cian said. “And a brood of demons to rule over.”
Moses, who stood between Isobel and Bellamy, turned his head slowly, his expression pinched. “I’m sorry, do I know you?”
“Don’t be a dick,” Isobel said beneath her breath. “Don’t ask the impossible.” He flicked his hair out of his face, turning his back on Bellamy. “What’s all this about, anyway?”
Bellamy: Moses saw your name on my screen. Bellamy: He’s threatening to brain me with a sauté pan.
Some things aren’t worth winning the game.
“You want to know what’s fucked up? My mate ignored me and stepped in front of someone who could have buried razor-sharp talons into her chest before she could fucking open her pretty little lips and squeak for help. Hold it.”
He swooped her up suddenly, making her yelp as he stalked to the door and threw it open. He walked down the hallway of rooms, pounding on each of the doors. “She said yes,” he announced. Everyone appeared in their doorways, most of them looking like they were either getting ready for bed or already in bed.
“This is how I am now,” Niko snarled, thumping his chest. “This is me. Forcing me to come home won’t change that. Forcing me away from Isobel won’t change that. They need to accept things for how they are. I wasn’t forced into this. I made my decision that day, when I decided to bond my mate. It was my decision to make, and I don’t fucking regret it. They can’t force me to regret it. They might not know the details or that she’s my mate, but they can’t force me to rewind fucking time.”
“Actually, it was an engagement gift,” Moses said, shoving back his chair and standing to stretch. “They want to know if you guys will honeymoon here in the settlement or somewhere a little more exotic like here in the settlement, but down the road.”
Oscar: Just look after her or I’ll kill you. Bellamy: Look how close we’ve grown.
He gripped her elbow. “My sides are well acquainted with this little chicken wing.” She gasped. “How dare you.” “Children,” Elijah sighed out. “Stop fighting.”
He chuckled, catching her arms. “All right, you menace, I concede.”
“Get him,” Moses whispered silkily into her ear. The devil on her shoulder.
Oscar: You can be friends with Isobel now. Bellamy: And you can date her now.
