“How many times do I have to say nobody touches her!” Tavish bellowed and charged at him.
I burned to unleash the damn protective streak inside me and kill everyone who’d harmed her. Staying away hadn’t lessened my emotions toward her; in fact, I feared my feelings for her might have intensified.
“You won’t be with Finnian or anyone else,” he growled. “I couldn’t handle it, sprite. We have enough stacked against us—don’t make things harder than they need to be.” His face softened, and he released his hold, his hand running down my arm. “Please.”
I ignored him, stalking to the doorway, and heard a sound that shattered everything inside me. She was crying.
“I forgot what that sounded like.” He reached over and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear. “As a young boy, I always loved the sound of your laughter.”
“I meant everything I said when I was drunk.” His irises lightened to silver. “More than anything in this realm, I wish our future had never changed and we could be together. More, I regret finding you and bringing you here. I wish I had searched harder for another way to break through the veil because I’d give anything for you to have the life you deserve. If I could turn back time—”
