His face was paler than normal—which spoke volumes for the Prince of Darkness, Frost, and Nightmares—reminding me of the snow I’d seen a handful of times when we’d traveled to the Unseelie castle.
Unless a fae was an experienced healer, we only shared magic if we found our mate.
The last fae who could heal injuries through touch had lived thousands of years ago, and there hadn’t been one since.
“There you two are,” a deep voice with a faint accent boomed from the edge of the crowd where Tall Guy had been trying to take me.
Gray eyes the color of storm clouds met mine, causing my heart to quicken. They were so familiar, yet I couldn’t place them. Still, they spoke to something deep inside me.
Tall Guy gritted his teeth as he noted my relaxed posture. “She’s your girl?” Sexy Man chuckled darkly. “The one I’ve been searching for almost half my life.”
I finally felt something for someone! Though the sensation was startling. Being next to him felt right … and I never wanted to be apart from him again.
widely. I’d kill her if she didn’t stop since he could see both of us. “When I saw you, no one else mattered.” Sexy Man winked, turning his attention to me.
“My name’s Lira.” I motioned to my sister. “This is Eiric.” “Lovely names. They sound as if they’re from another world.” He bowed faintly. “I’m Tavish.”
“I can stay with her.” Tavish smiled, becoming more breathtaking. “No one else will talk to her or touch her while you’re gone.” Eiric grumbled, “That’s what I’m worried about.”
It would be four minutes. Nothing could possibly go wrong in that short amount of time.
“I must admit, this moment is more exhilarating than I expected.” His gaze remained locked on me like my fear made dying worth it. “All these years, yet your horrified look is nothing like what I anticipated.” “Are you serious?” I yelled, trying to glare at him.
over with.” “Oh, death isn’t in your imminent future. That fate would be too easy.”
“Where are we?” If I got a location, maybe I could escape and get back home. “Somewhere you’ll never leave.” He sneered. “Unless I allow it.”
He wanted to humiliate me. “Noted. Thanks.” His head tilted back. “I’ll let you have that one because you don’t remember not to thank a fae. Next time, I won’t be so kind, and you will owe me.”
Did the sexy buffoon just tell me to die without a fight?
“You’d best behave and make sure you keep me happy.”
Placing a hand on either side of me so that I was trapped between his arms, he lowered his face to mine, our foreheads touching. He then whispered, “There would be no forcing about it.”
Our important message is to convey that Lira is not to be harmed by anyone. That her fate lies solely with me, and anyone who gets in the way of that will die by my hands.” Finnian somehow smiled bigger while Caelan blinked.
“I doubt slaughtering is what I’d witness if I were to remain.” Finnian chuckled. “You would probably forget I was here if I stayed quiet.”
The dress hadn’t been as formfitting on my mother, but the way it looked on Lira had me believing it had been made for her.
“Besides, what happened was innocent, and I understand what’s going on, so I won’t do anything to make either of you feel uncomfortable again.”
At that moment, Eldrin became the one person I could kill with zero guilt. He was a monster … and something tugged at my brain like it wanted to be known.
“Hots for him?” Caelan scratched the back of his neck. “You’re a water Seelie, not fire.” Of course, they wouldn’t know what that meant. Fine. I’d make it clear for him. “Apparently, I want to fuck him.” “I knew it,” Tavish hissed and released me. “I can’t wait until the gauntlet is over to kill him. He will die tonight.” Then he soared across the room to the door. “Tavish, she didn’t mean—” Caelan started, ready to block him, but Finnian stepped out of the way, waving his friend on. “Remember, he’s got the hurt leg!”
