I am thrust into an emotional gray area and my stomach sinks. I stare blankly at Dr. Not-Spencer, and the sound around me fades away. I always used to think that it was fake when people broke the bad news in movies, and the sound would get all fuzzy to show that they weren’t listening anymore as they slipped into their emotions. It was just for effect, I would think, that doesn’t actually happen. Fun fact, that does actually happen, but it’s different from how the movies make it feel. It’s like shoving your head under water and not even hearing the annoying loud kid yelling at his mom to look at him cannonball above the surface of the pool. It’s like what deep space would sound like if you were drifting aimlessly forever toward galaxies unknown. Just nothing but pressure squeezing you from all angles. Suddenly, I realize that Dr. Nelson left the room. I don’t know how long I’ve been staring in that same spot but it felt like an eternity.
