Not Quite by the Book

“I think it’s safe to say you’ve found your people.” Paul adjusted the glasses on his nose. “We’re all a little bookish here.”

The oven made a number of questionable sounds as it preheated, but the appliance appeared to be about my age, so I assumed it was doing the best it could.

“Okay, but remember how much I love you, and be gentle with my best friend while you work on her. She’s incredibly important to me.”
