Mariah let whatever it was bubbling up deep inside wash over her, pushing her to her feet and out of the house to the field and training pitch beyond.
Im having a hard time understanding her logic and motivations. Like this woukd feel like the ultimate chance to escape because who woukd just assume its themselves thats the chosen one?
The only thing Mariah didn’t have was a dress suitable to wear to this Choosing at the great palace in Verith, but she didn’t let that fact slow her frantic packing; they would have time once they arrived in the capital to find something suitable to wear.
Like where was shes getting this money for dresses and traveling ? Its explained they're poor and implied she has no job... I need answers.
“Is it expected that I … that I bond with one of them tonight?” Ryenne’s amusement dimmed just slightly. “I forget, sometimes, how new this all is for you. How you were not raised with the knowledge that this could be your life, as I was. You just take to it so well.” She paused, inhaling. “No, that is not expected of you. Not tonight. The idea of the bond is … daunting. You may take your time, get to know them first. Tonight, I want you to focus only on the now. On selecting these men who will become closer to you than anyone else on this earth.”
If she was a better woman, she would scrap these plans now. Would ask one of the other Armature who she didn’t know as well to do this first bond. But, of course, she was selfish, and because of how unsettled she’d felt this past week, she wanted—needed—it to be Sebastian. She needed the strength this bond could bring her. And if that made her a despicable woman, if knowing this night could end with her hurting him …
I feel like there is a backstory needed as to why she thinks this way because its clearly not her parents?
