People still went to church, however it was a general understanding amongst the populace that science could and would explain it all. They even sought horror in their games and entertainment. As if bad wasn’t real and could be switched off and on at will.
“I don’t know, I don’t care. My life hurts.” Lysander walked to the bed and fell on it.
“He’s not Death Aidan, just Satan. He has no control over death and life.
He existed, that was enough.
“Oh God.” Lysander said to herself. “Where?” Lucifer was leaning against the doorjamb. “No, not like ‘oh, God’.” “Ah. I was hoping not to see him anytime soon. I owe him fifty dollars.” Lucifer relaxed
he felt bad he hadn’t bothered to notice that just because Lysander wasn’t always complaining didn’t mean she wasn’t stressed.
“Adam, a moment if you please.” God said as He approached the newly made man. Swiftly God hit Adam over the head and then pulled a rib from his body. Lucifer thought it was a bit harsh.
“Whoa!” Lucifer said. “Man I’m good!” God said.
“Aidan, I don’t want your soul.” Lucifer whispered in his honeyed voice. “I just want to help you out.”
Aidan buying one of her paintings when he was so obviously in love with it. Why would any artist not want one of their creations to go to someone who would admire it?
“Don’t be a dick. I just watched a woman get eaten by an Ewok demon. I have the patience of a fly.” Lysander retorted.
What was this feeling, this gut wrenching, heart pounding, vomit inducing, endorphin releasing, skin tingling feeling? As he stared deep into Lysander’s forest green eyes, slowly drawing closer and closer to her, nearly touching, he realized it. He was in love. In that glorious moment of recognition, that time stopping interval of thought, there was actual peace on earth.
This surprised Lysander as he had never hugged her before, nor did he seem to be in the hugging mood today, and she had never been that close to him. He smelled of some odd spice and smoke, it was not at all unpleasant.
I gave them creation, I gave them life, and look what they do with it! They throw it away as if it means nothing.
“So you’re not mad at me for that whole kidnapping thing, right?” Lucifer finally dared to ask. “Not really. I’m flattered actually. I mean I was a little ticked off for a while but what good will that do me. Plus, you are a pretty good kisser.” She smiled at him as she poured boiling water into the teapot.
