“Malla’s tits,” muttered Rey, dragging a hand down his face. “Tell me she did not just apologize to a rock.”
He exhaled loudly. “You lasted an entire five minutes without talking. That must be a new record.”
“Friends do not suffocate friends for sordid details.”
When she’d handed Rey his heaping bowl of porridge this morning with a bright smile, he’d grumbled about it being “too early for one to be so offensively happy.” She’d snorted. There was far less venom in his words these days.
He was dreadful at this, but for her, he’d try.
And then Silla thought it—all this time, she’d been searching for a place to feel safe, but what if she’d been looking at it all wrong? What if safety was not a place, but a person? People?
Her future was clouded with uncertainty. There was bound to be more danger. And yet Silla found herself humming.
“Have you had trouble sleeping? You look tired, Saga.” You’re welcome to stop looking at me, she thought.
