To the black-sheep and the scapegoats. You were never as much trouble as they made you believe.
“Now,” Ren sighed. “In the coming weeks, when Carys is crowned your queen, I hope that you will remember this moment every time that you have to kneel before her. And I want you to remember the consequences of speaking ill of someone you know nothing about. I want you to look in the mirror, at your pretty new smile, and remember how unfunny your little joke was. Because next time, I’ll cut out your fucking tongue.”
“I ceased to exist the moment that you left this kingdom, Carys.”
But I will not be without you.”
“We are not what people say we are, Carys. You are your own person and you have every bit of freedom to choose who you want to be and what you want to be remembered for. Don’t let someone else’s fear of greatness keep you small.”
“You’ve always been mine.” He growled, lips and teeth grazing the curve of her pointed ear. “Always.”
“Always.”
“I love you.” He breathed. “I have loved you for as long as I can remember, Carys. There has been no one else and there never will be another that could hold a match to you—to what I feel for you. My feelings go beyond love, Carys. And even though our story is one filled with… so much pain, I would go through it all a thousands times just to be able to hold you for one moment. I would endure thousands of years of torment just to have you glance in my direction. My world began and will end with you. If you will have me.”
“I will have you. Every part of you.”
