The simple everyday object, the pot, upon which all the feeling responses are focused is able to carry a complex meaning from one mind to another. The object of the everyday world acts as an immediate vehicle.
We must therefore learn to look at the forms of pottery not just to classify them mentally, but to treat them as symbols and read from them a meaning which will consist of the whole range of analogous possible realities of sense experience each form evokes.
