The Forgiveness of the Messenger Forgiveness is a moral virtue that helps to build peace and reconciliation. Forgiveness is to forsake revenge when one is capable of exacting revenge. The examples that follow illustrate beautifully how the Prophet forgave even his bitterest enemies. God said to the Messenger , Forgive, enjoin the good, and turn away from the ignorant. (al-A’raf 7:199)
