“We live together. If you catch my drift.”
“Sorry about her. Bit of a troublemaker. She’s got a few problems up here,” he says, tapping his temple. “Anyway, it was nice to meet you. Always a pleasure meeting the financial donors.”
It’s making me want to play. I can feel Ginny’s eyes burning a hole in my back from across the room.
“Yeah, your brother is a creep. Does he always handle you that way?”
“What are you doing, Jackson? What do you think you can fix?”
And later, if he does, you can tell him you secured a million-dollar donation with just a few dances.”
“She’s my secretary. And she’s married…to a woman,”
“I’ll go out with you. After you’ve gone thirty days without being with another woman. No dates, no touching, and no sex.”
“Oh, don’t act like it’s going to be a piece of cake. You’re you.”
“Maybe it’s time to find someone with enough power to protect you from whatever it is you’re scared of.”
But to have your mother walk out on you and then your dad kill himself? Most people would feel abandoned. Usually, people like that grow up with attachment issues—problems with intimacy.
“I was worried after…last time,” I tell her honestly. “I was beginning to think you’d decided you no longer wished to see me.”
“We could upgrade to the Dreamers wing?” Touching. No sex. But I can touch her.
Lenni is their most sought-after Angel.
“Valentina!”
I don’t know why I expected chandeliers shaped like boobs.
hear him blow out a breath behind me and realize he has a perfect view of my bare ass and nearly naked pussy.
“Arch your back, ass in the air. Grab a pillow for your head.”
“And what lesson was that?” His voice proposes there’s a grin on his face as he answers, “You like being told what to do.”

“Honestly? Because Scott is stupid. They were happy. He worshipped her, and she adored him. But it wasn’t enough. He went and fucked it all up because men like us are never truly happy. Always thinking we need more.”
I can feel from how his fingers run up my skin that I’m so wet. I’ve already made a mess between my legs. “I told you to touch me.”
“Get out of your head, love. Wherever you’ve gone, come back to me.”
“Fuck, love. That mouth of yours just needed to be unleashed, didn’t it?”
“I want you to make me come, then I want you to get undressed and fuck me.”
“No, Little Ember.” Thinking it’s just another way to get me to talk, I ask, “No? No, as in, not now? Or no, as in, never?”
“No, as in, not tonight. I want to savor this moment. There will be time for other things.”
“It’s a no from me. Sorry. You’ll have to wait until he’s off work when the rest of the other kitty cats come sniffing around,” she drones on as if bored by my mere presence.
“You never have to apologize for stopping in for a little afternoon delight.”
“Yeah, sure, Red. It’s a dessert. One I’ll eat right on my desk if you let me.”
When our lips part, we look at each other as everything melts away, and suddenly, he’s all I can see.
Once he’s sat, his hands leave my thighs—one traveling up to fist in my hair while the other journeys between my legs to rub at my clit, with more intention than before.
“You didn’t answer me. Before this goes any further, you have to tell me you want this,” he tells me.
“Let me be very clear, Ginny. All you have to do is give me the green light, and I will take you upstairs and fuck you the way no man before me ever has, and no man after me ever will.”
Eat your heart out, Jackson Tailor.
“I’ve never been a giver. Always a taker. Now she’s serving me my own shit on a platter, and I can’t get enough.”
“No, Jackson. All of that is because of you. Because you don’t even know what’s staring you right in the face.”
“You’re in love with her, you idiot.”
Because she calls to me like a siren to a ship at sea.
I set my hand on the table, my fingers twitching to grab my phone and call her again. I’m like a drug addict who hasn’t had his fix in days.
I’m done crying. I’m done playing by the rules of these men who think they can just do whatever they want with no consequences. I’m just done.
“Please, don’t leave me,” I whisper. But he does. And I feel like he takes a part of my soul with him.
“Be careful. That’s my future wife you’re talking about.”
With the stranger being just on the other side of that door, though, I have to know who he is. I need to look him in the eye to be able to let him go. All I want is just one glimpse, and then I’ll move forward.
“You’re just a glutton for punishment, aren’t you, Red?”
“Don’t you mean Little Ember?”
You branded yourself on my soul, Ginny. And I handed you the branding iron.”
“Love sucks, kid. We can try and harden ourselves to it all we want, but eventually, that one woman is gonna come along and break down the walls we built so high. Sometimes it works, and sometimes all it does is create utter fucking chaos.”
Hold on, Red. I’m coming.
Viktoriya.
