This was my life—to be hated and forgotten—and I just had to accept it.
Her voice had quieted until it was almost a whisper, her cheeks turning bright red. In our world, image was power, so it wasn’t surprising that she carried shame. But I found I didn’t care much that this made her vulnerable. Did it really matter when I was here to protect her?
didn’t want to trap her. I just needed her to be within reach at all times.
“You are my wife and I’m your husband. You’re in pain, so I’m going to fix it.”
A wave of overwhelm washed over me, and I couldn’t stop myself from leaning forward and resting my head on his chest. I was so tired and my meds hadn’t kicked in yet. “I’m so confused,” I whispered. Matteo’s arms wrapped around me, and he pulled me closer. “Come on, tesoro. I don’t like seeing you in pain.”
“You have to take care of yourself. Or I’ll be forced to do it for you.” He traced a finger across my shoulder. “But maybe I wouldn’t mind that.”
don’t want to stop,” I said, meeting my husband’s gaze head-on, challenging him to argue. He ran his thumb across my lip. “You think I have much more self control than I do, tesoro, if you think I can stop now.”
For the first time in my life, I felt desirable. I didn’t want to be a disappointment to my husband.
“I’ll give you what you need. But one day, you’ll know that the safest place for you to be is in my arms.”
I looked down at my beautiful wife. Her hair was braided in a crown around her head, and her eyes were bright and happy. Killing three men in our kitchen probably would make her unhappy.
“I warned you, tesoro. You need to learn to sit still. Now my cock will keep you in place while I work.”
“Baby, I need you to spend at least fifty thousand a month. Preferably closer to a hundred thousand. If you don’t, it looks like I’m not providing for you as your husband, as Don. Do you understand?”
