For all those who feel like they aren’t deserving of love. Spoiler alert, you are. Let that shit in.
“Mommy?” Luca asked, his voice barely audible now. “Yes, baby.” “Love you.” My chest gave a painful squeeze. “Love you more than bees love honey.”
“Mother frickin’ son of a biscuit-eating grandma.”
the woman with what felt like the first genuine smile I’d had in months, those hypnotizing turquoise eyes flashing in my mind. She was fierce, that was for damn sure. Fiery and more than a little determined. I respected the hell out of it. Even if I wished she’d let me help. I couldn’t help glancing over my shoulder for one more look and nearly tripped over my feet.
It was more than clear that she was used to shouldering the weight of the world. I had the most bizarre urge to go after her, take the bag from her hold, and carry it to her damn SUV. A vehicle I hoped had a new tire by now.
“I may miss a lot of things, but one of those will never be how fucking gorgeous you are. Doesn’t matter if you’re covered in grease or flour or have dark circles you’re drowning in. None of it will take away an ounce of your beauty.”
She grinned up at me, and the action hit me right in the solar plexus, stealing the air from my lungs.
“My eyes?” “Turquoise. Like the Caribbean Sea. Could find a world of peace in those eyes.”
Shep Don’t think that’ll be an issue. A little birdie told me Cope already got a trampoline for the backyard and all the pastry accessories someone would need to turn his kitchen into a bakery. My back teeth ground together as my fingers flew across the screen. Me Tell Thea she’s a traitor.
his girl
“I still think a pot enema would clear Ricky right out.” Teddy’s brows flew up. “A pot enema?” “Cleanses the bullshit,” Lolli said with a grin.
Teddy grinned and released Cope. “I think I might need to move to Sparrow Falls, man. I love your family.”
“Call me Linc. All my friends do.” Cope made a noise that almost sounded like a growl, and Lincoln’s face split into an outright grin.
“Thank you, Warrior.” “I didn’t do anything.” Cope pulled back, his eyes shining. “You lent me your strength.”
“You’re different.”
Sutton was quiet for a moment and then reached to lay a palm on my cheek. “I know what it’s like to have memories that haunt you. I’m here if you’re ever ready.”
he looks at you like you’re the sun, moon, and stars all wrapped into one.”
Thieves was probably the most accurate term Thea could’ve picked. Because Cope was a damn thief. Without me realizing it and without my permission, he’d stolen my heart.
that green-eyed monster jealousy curling in my gut. I didn’t want Sutton dancing with some strange asshole. I wanted to be the only one who held her.
“I’ve worked so damn hard to stand on my own two feet. I’m in charge of my life, Cope. And if you would’ve stopped long enough to ask me what I wanted, you might’ve found out it was you.” Before I could say a word, she stalked off. Fuck.
“I never once said I didn’t want you. Fuck, Warrior. I think about you with every other breath. I dream about you. And when I wake up, I swear I can still taste you on my tongue.”
Because your smell is everywhere. That cinnamon, sugar, and a hint of vanilla. I swear it’s burned into the walls. I haven’t changed my sheets since you slept in my bed because I don’t want to smell anything else. It’s hell. But I’ll gladly go down in those flames.”
“And the way you say my goddamned name. I want to know how your tongue curves around it when I sink into you. When you’re pulsing around my cock and sucking me deep.”
“Killing me. The way you press those pretty little thighs together… But it’s a death I’ll take every time.”
“I want you, Cope. I want you to take me. I want to know what it’s like to lose myself in you and forget my own name. I want it all.” “About fucking time,” I muttered. And then I was on her.
“Demanding little thing, aren’t you?”
“Didn’t think she could get any more gorgeous. And then she begs.”
It’ll fit.”
Anson chuckled. “Sometimes, I love your family.” “Jesus,” Shep muttered. “It still weirds me out when you smile like that.” Anson grinned like some creepy clown, making me shudder.
Because Sutton would always be worth it.
And some tiny part of me would always wonder if it was because I wasn’t enough.
“Because you scare the hell out of me, Warrior. Because you make me feel more than I ever thought I could.”
“Never afraid to play dirty when it comes to you.”
“Warrior, don’t like you assuming we won’t work out. But if we don’t, I’ll never bail on Luca. I’ll have his back for the rest of his life, and nothing will ever change that.”
His concern had everything in me warming. And, God, it was nice to have someone with me. Someone who could make a run to the store or the pharmacy. For the first time in too long, I didn’t feel quite so alone.
“I don’t know how you do it,” Arden whispered. “It’s like your heart is walking around outside your body.”
I made a show of snapping my long rubber glove and adjusting the doctor’s mask and ski goggles on my face. “There’s only one person who hasn’t fallen, and I’m doing whatever it takes to stay barf-free.”
“Not even those nasty germs will keep me away if you’re upset.”
“I’ll always take care of you. Always.” Sutton just cried harder. “Don’t promise me that.” “Why not?” I asked, my voice dropping low. “Because if I lose that promise, I’ll break.” “Fuck,” I muttered. I cradled her against my chest. “I’m afraid it’s too late.” “Too late?” she croaked. My fingers sifted through Sutton’s hair, tangling in the strands. “I’m already in love with you.”
He’s bonded to me, but those instincts take over with Luca because he loves him.”
“Aw,” Luca said, jogging over to the dog and throwing his arms around his neck. “I love you, too, big guy.”
There was nothing worse for my rule-following brother than coloring outside the lines.
Walter’s jaw hardened, and anger flickered in his eyes. “He’s not going to hurt you here. I’ve got a frying pan and know how to use it.”
“Love you like you were my own. And you deserve so much better than whatever he gave you.”
