We were surrounded by fields of tall, yellow stalks. Constantine slowed to match the speed limit. The signs said thirty-five for vehicles and fifteen for horses. Where were we? We pulled into the gas station, and a horse and buggy pulled in beside us. A man and woman in plain clothes climbed out and curtly nodded to us.
“One room, please.” I stood at the front desk, speaking to the clerk at the desk. His name tag said, Mitch. Mitch, a clean-cut man about our age, maybe a few years older, smiled politely and nodded. “Of course. Mother just finished cleaning the rooms. We have two rooms available if you’d like.” He nodded to Kansas and Eisley, standing behind me. I tightened my smile. “Just one room is fine.”
“Good morning, Father Duvall! It’s early.” “Do you have coffee?” I asked. “Coffee?” His brow furrowed. “I didn’t know priests could have caffeine.” I rolled my eyes. “We can indulge a little, Mitch. Now please, may I have a cup? I smell it coming from somewhere.”
Thats not correct lol priests can have coffee just not an hour before mass lol (source: i was raised a catholic)
They just really irked me. I don’t need their thoughts and prayers. I don’t need saving. I just want to be treated kindly.”
