Papen and his reactionary clique, Hitler fumed, were not interested in granting him political influence but simply getting him to “shut up.”204 Repeatedly, Hitler stressed that he was interested neither in getting a ministerial post nor in sharing power with anyone else: “The only thing that appeals to me is leadership itself, true power, and we National Socialists have a sacred right to it.”
