“I’m sorry.” Instead of pulling away like I expect, she searches my features. “Are you really worried?”
“I know it’s hard to believe me now, but I’ve never wanted to hurt you.”
“Well, you...

“You’re going to be our second witness,” I state.
“Why are you here, Oliver?” He glances away, then back to her. “I can’t say.” “Tell me!” she screams, her voice cracking. “He works for me,”
“He always has.” I should have known better than to let her find out this way. She rears back. “He can’t. He couldn’t have–”
“He does. Now, let’s get started.” “I can’t do this. You’ll have to find someone else.”
“Do you, Scarlet Laurent, take Matthias Everette to be your lawfully wedded husband?” “No.” She spits the word, and the officiant freezes. “Continue,” I command, and he does. “Do you, Matthias Everette, take Scarlet Laurent to be your lawfully wedded wife?” “I do.”
"By the power vested in me by the state of Massachusetts, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
I grasp the back of her neck and force the kiss on her. She refuses to open for me, teeth clamped shut. I grip her ass, pressing her against my hard cock, and she gasps. I use the opportuni...

Happy?
“I’m fine. Your husband seems to have a soft spot for you. Please don’t complain about me, or I won’t survive.”
“What’s all of this about anyway?” I ask. He tilts his head. “Standard check when you’re trying to conceive.” “I’m going to kill him.”
“Do you really think I’d miss the opportunity for these two to make fun of you after all the shit you said to me when I was trying to get Misty?” “It’s not the same.” “It’s fucking worse.”
“My money’s on her killing him.” Bash smiles. “I’m not taking that bet,” Xander joins in.
“Does she know where she is yet? That could change things.” “No.” I shake my head, picturing her reaction. “I’ll let her figure that out on her own.”
Stripping, I walk around the other side of the bed and climb in after her, wrapping her in my arms from behind. Her scent fills my nose as I press it into the nape of her neck, each breath a drug I can’t get enough of. I place a kiss in her hair and tighten my grip. “I’m never letting you go.”
“Good morning, Little Sparrow.”
“The door was locked.” He gives me a sleepy smile, filling my chest with warmth. “I have the key.” “Of course you do.”
“Get off me before I bite you.” A low rumble vibrates from him directly into my chest. “That’s not the threat you think it is.” “I hate you.”
“Let me help you blow off some steam,” Matthias says without coming closer. “Are you going to let me punch you?” He smirks. “Something like that.”
He smirks at me, catching me checking him out, and I look away. “Don’t get cocky. You know you’re hot.” He comes closer until his shoes brush against my sneakers. “You think I’m hot?” “Only on the outside.”
“Like I said, I will take you whenever you want,” he deadpans. “Are you going to just leave a meeting because I ask?” “Yes.”
“You’re being ridiculous.” He gives me a knowing smile. “You’re cute when you’re flustered.”
My smile grows, knowing he’s going to regret this. He’s watching me. “Just keep smiling at me like that.”
“Why are you always thinking about running?” He’s back with a small white box in his hand. “Why do you always make it so tempting?” His tongue wets his bottom lip, and I fail not to watch it.
He patiently wraps my knuckles with white tape, taking care to align each row perfectly. His head is bowed, hair tumbling over his forehead.
“I like you like this.” “Like what?” I ask, still breathless. “Happy.”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” “Come fight me, Little Sparrow. I can take it.”
“Don’t cry to me when you get hurt.” “That’s if you can land a blow.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll go easy on you. I remember you were quite the whiner.” “Low blow. You promised not to bring it up again.”
“I’m pretty sure I didn’t. Plus, our promises don’t count anymore.” His hand closes around my wrist. “Why? I kept mine.” “What?”
“I told you I’d marry you when you turned twenty-five.”
“You remembered?” He drops his head to mine. “I waited for you.”
“Don’t lie to me.”
His mouth is hard on mine, biting my bottom lip when I refuse to open. I gasp, and his tongue fills my mouth, a guttural groan vibrating from his chest, reverberating through me. I want
to grab him and pull him closer. I want to bury my fingers into his hair and never let him stop. While he pushed me away, I was able to pretend like he didn’t take up my thoughts. Now he’s kissing me, broad shoulders pushing me into the mat, like he’s exactly where he belongs. Like he hasn’t been the reason my heart ached and I’ve cried myself to sleep.
“What do you want from me?” “Haven’t you figured it out already?” He places a featherlight kiss to my forehead. “Everything. I want everything.”
I’d like to see you try.”
