“And we’ve filled her head with stories of Mother Russia. She believes she already has a family. Her country is mother enough, and all the other orphans are her brothers and sisters. She wants what’s best for her family, and that’s why the children who want to leave us are always front and center when she arranges these little displays.” Her tone turned fond. “Again, she’s only six.
