I won’t let fear control me. I’m just acknowledging it, okay? Let me voice it. Let me face it.”
“Woman.” I bend closer so she can see the sincerity on my face. “You’ve always been beautiful to me. Not because of how you look but because of who you are. Even when things were at their worst, it didn’t change how I saw you.” I reach out, grazing a thumb along her jawline. “You are strength and courage in a world that was falling apart. You’re the fire that warmed the coldest nights and the light in the darkest times. Your beauty isn’t just in your appearance. It’s in your spirit, your resilience.”
“I long for a day when I don’t have to be strong. Strength has drained me. I don’t want to be praised for enduring. I want tenderness and peace. I crave a softer path, a gentler life, that asks nothing of my toughness.”
“She’s dangerous because she makes you jealous.” And seeing Frankie jealous makes me hard as fuck.
“Haven’t you heard? Waiting is my thing now. Every second without you is a second spent waiting for you. Even if you don’t want me in your life, you’re the constant in mine. Always here.” I tap my temple. “And here.” I touch my chest. “Doesn’t matter how long it takes. My feelings for you are timeless. I’ll wait forever.”
“You think I don’t see the way you look at me? The way you try to provoke me?” I reach out but stop myself from touching her, my hand hovering inches from her neck. “These marks are a challenge. A test of my patience. A punishment for my mistakes.” “They have nothing to do with you.” “You showed them to me, darling.” I sit back, my pulse jagged and bloodthirsty, each exhale a strike against the air. “I told you I would wait forever, and that terrifies you. So you exposed your neck, hoping to provoke my jealousy and turn me into a liar.”
“I don’t need another savior.” “You have one anyway. When you need me, I’ll be there. I’ll fucking show up with every muscle of my beating heart.”
Let this be a lesson to you, little girl. Never invite a monster into your heart. Because it renders you powerless.
She’s a hellion on the outside, full of fire and fight. But beneath the ferocity, she’s a tender-hearted soul, drenched in empathy, her heart forever open, giving away her healing power to anyone in need. She bleeds energy, tangled in the pain and need of others until she’s hollowed out. If she’s not careful, she’ll lose her life force in that endless give.
We’re free, but I don’t feel free. Not like I did before the abduction. I’m constantly on edge, waiting for something else to go wrong. Like, at any minute, the devil will reach out of the shadows and drag me back to hell.”
Your heart is deeply scarred. Give yourself time and permission to heal.” “I’m trying. But I feel like I have to be strong for everyone else. If I fall apart, who will hold everything together?”
Remember, the devil may have many forms, but so do your strengths.
“You start by knowing what you want.” His blue eyes burn into mine. “Then you fight like hell to get it.”
“Fucking you is a start.” Low and velvety, his voice rubs against my overheated skin. “Bruising, claiming, ramming, burning, breaking, insides spilling, guts melting, spread open, ass up, crying out in the dark while you come on me, and I come in you. That’s where we’re headed.”
I need help. But the thought of opening up, of breaking through that door and peering into the dark, dismal hell inside, paralyzes me. There’s a terrible place within me, full of gruesome memories, a Pandora’s box that shouldn’t be touched.
“In this room,” Monty says, “we command, and you submit. You’ll obey, surrender, and take what we give you until you can’t breathe. Then you’ll catch your breath and beg us to do it again. Understand?”
“Well, it turns out that lions can fly. Bears make mighty fine vodka, and the Magic Kingdom will no longer be without its queen.”
