“I tried.” I couldn’t tell her more, not with the blood-vow binding my lips. Not with the promise I had made—the one I’d sworn to our mother. The one that hung around my neck like an albatross.
“Look”—I poked him in the chest—“you are not going to want to deal with my mate.” He hesitated, and I couldn’t be certain if it was due to my threat or my bare finger. Before I could touch him again and find out, a furious voice ripped through the air. “No, he is not.”
“What…?” Murder coated his words as he answered, “You’ve been drugged.” Someone was about to die. I prayed it wasn’t me.
