He pffts. “Don’t pfft me,” I say. He pffts again.
Her perfume swirls around me, seductive, alluring. A promise of sultry nights, and long, slow kisses that should never end.
“Besides, drinks is a cop-out. He should take you to dinner. He should drive you home. He should walk you to your door. He should make sure you get inside safely. But before he does that, he should devastate you with a kiss like he can’t fucking breathe if he doesn’t kiss you.”
Gently, he sets me on my bed, takes off my shoes and presses a tender kiss to my forehead before he whispers, “That’s how you end a first date.”
“You don’t have to say that. I know.” “I do have to say that. I have to protect her however I can,” I whisper.
“Ah, the bid-on-a-date-with-a-player thing. No, they didn’t ask. But I’d say no.” “Because you’re taken,” he says in a leading voice as I cruise toward the arena. “I fucking hope so,” I say seriously.
“Is that why you’re asking? Because I hope you know there is no other woman in the entire universe who could interest me. You have ruined me for everyone. So there.”
“Why do you taste like a mint farm?”
And one of my favorite things to do is to watch movies and eat popcorn and spend time with…” I pause because I was going to say the love of my life. But my reflexes are really sharp, so I make a game-day decision and change it up. Might as well tell the whole truth. “My future wife.” Erin’s eyes widen to saucers. “You’re…engaged?” “Not yet. But soon. I will be,”
