“You’re here” are my first words to his face after eight long, much-needed months of forcing myself to listen to my heart. “And you look even more beautiful than the last time I saw you,” Reed says.
“You spoil me too much.” “What can I say? Spoiling you makes me hard.”
“I love you, angel. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I want to take care of you for the rest of my life. If you want me, I’m yours.”
“I don’t regret a single thing that happened because it led me to you,” I tell him. “You’re my dream come true, Reed. I love you. I love you with all I’ve got.”
“I’m not much of a spiritual person, Lila, but I believe you were sent to this world to heal my soul,” he says. “And not just mine, as much as I want to keep you to myself. You’re a gift to this world. You make everyone’s life better just by being near them. You love unconditionally, and I admire you so damn much for it. You’re an angel walking among mortals, and I’m so damn lucky to call you mine.”
“I hope it doesn’t freak you out. But when I say you’re my angel, Lila, I mean every word. I want you on my skin forever.”
“I told him I love you more than anything in this world and that I wanted all of us to start over. Said I wanted to tattoo these angel wings for you because you taught me to learn from the pain. To free myself from my shackles and fly away.”
“I would do anything for you, Lila. I will.”
“Lila,” he starts, his voice so raw with emotion that it makes me breathless. “I think I knew the moment I met you that we had something special. My future had always been dark to me, unclear—I never saw happiness in it. But then you showed me love, real love, and everything started taking shape. I imagined things I never allowed myself to, like having kids and growing old with someone. You are my life, my angel, and I want to spend the rest of my days with you. “I love you, Lila. More than I’ve ever loved anything and anyone in this world. Will you marry me?”
“Your love has always been worth every bit of pain,” he whispers, pressing his lips to my ring. Sealing our promise of forever.
Reed is my life, and I am his, and nothing will ever be strong enough to keep us apart again.
“Nobody calls you Samuel anyway,” I told Dad the day Sam was born, tears in both of our eyes as he held my son for the first time. “We might as well give the name a second chance.” Sam and my dad have been inseparable ever since, like two akin souls who have found each other after lifetimes apart.
I realize there’s nothing, absolutely anything, I would’ve done differently. Because every painful lesson got me here, to this life that feels so complete. To the brightest light.
