It didn’t matter who the person was because it wasn’t who I wanted.

Their existence in the moment was enough and eventually Carter’s voice lifted around them. “I don’t regret my choice, Kenni. You shouldn’t either.” He pulled her in closer and relaxed into the comfort that she was and would always be his priority. The rest was just details.
“The same man that made you cry for almost touching me, yes. So imagine what he’ll do if I tell him you actually put your hand on me.”
“But I’ll ask if you need me to. I’ll do any-fucking-thing you need me to, Kenni.”
It’s me and you, Kenni, and we’re gonna ride this shit until the wheels fall off. When they do, I’m buying another set so we can do it all over again.”
