Retta told me that one of her proudest moments at Parks was when director Dan Goor (also one of the most brilliant writers out there) told her that she had put “the button on that scene,” to which she asked what in the world he was referring to. This was during season 4’s episode “Campaign Shake-Up,” where Donna is asked what she thinks about the water fountain and improvises the line “Do I look like I drink water?” That was the button Dan needed.
