Amy recovered in time for Leslie to give her alibis to the ranger at the end of the episode, when she realizes she’s dealing with a misogynistic A-hole. If you want to watch a master class in improv comedy, check this out again. Here are a few of my favorite lines, most of which were made up by Amy on the spot: “I was thinking with my lady parts”; “I’m wearing a new bra and it closes in the front and it popped open and it threw me off”; “Bitches be crazy”; “I’m good at tolerating pain. Retta told me that one of her proudest moments at Parks was when director Dan Goor (also one of the most brilliant writers out there) told her that she had put “the button on that scene,” to which she asked what in the world he was referring to. I remember at the end of the table read I breathed an audible sigh of relief. Aubrey came up to me and passed me a note that was folded up very tight—do you remember the movie Shutter Island where Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo go to the mental hospital, and I think someone passes them a note? At the time it was a famous moment that had just happened in a famous movie—and Aubrey’s note said “Run,” just like in the movie. It was a perfect welcome note.
“Did someone just talk about a job opening? Guess who’s got two thumbs up and was just cleared of insurance fraud? This guy! Got off on a technicality!” To Ron Swanson: “Business partner now and forever. Hold up—Forever 21, twenty-one-gun salute, Salute Your Shorts, kaboosh! I just free associated all over the moo-stache.” Talking about his sister: “She’s the woooooorst!” “It’s like I always say. When life gives you lemons, you sell some of your grandma’s jewelry and go clubbing.”
“This book is full of lies. Only the Dark Lord himself knows the truth about Pawnee. Do not trust Jerry.” —Aubrey Plaza April Ludgate
