Students can be penalized for refusing to affirm new identities as well. In Wisconsin, a public middle school opened a sexual harassment investigation into three eighth-grade students who failed to call a fellow student “they” or “them.”[14] One of the boys’ parents explained the new pronouns confused them, as they didn’t know how to refer to an individual in plural form.
And that's disgusting. If I were a teacher or administrator at that school my response would've been, "Look, if you want to come after me about refusing to use pronouns, I get that. I'm an adult. I don't have to work here. But as Pink Floyd put it, you leave those kids alone."
