Representative of Christ and the church. In Ephesians 5, Paul explains that the marriage of a man and a woman represents an eternal, spiritual marriage between Jesus Christ and His Bride, the church. Wives, Paul says, are to submit to their husbands as they submit to Christ, and husbands must love their wives as Christ loves the church.
