Even today, you can find me admiring Thomas Jefferson’s elucidations on the evils of enslavement, all of them underwritten by those very evils themselves. And for much of my time as a journalist, I have been surrounded by people who, on some level, think of me as an exception that does not disprove their theories of white supremacy.
