My mom is a strange paradox. I used to call her the persecuted princess. She would manage to somehow be superior yet simultaneously the victim. It took me a long time to identify this dichotomy. I now recognize that she is not alone in this mind-set. I see a great number of Muslim people comfortably nestled in the same spot. In the news, you will see Muslims angry and confrontational about a Diet Coke or having to shake a hand or their right to cover their face during a citizenship ceremony.
