The judge ruled that corporal punishment wasn’t against the law in Canada, and due to our “culture,” sometimes those punishments can be more severe than in the average Canadian household. The scariest thought crouching in the back of my mind became a reality with one swift smack of a judge’s gavel. I never felt so betrayed in my life. It had been my only hope, and it had been dashed. How disgusting to allow a child to be beaten because her abuser happens to come from another country! What has that got to do with anything? All children should be protected.
