My heart sank. I knew there was no way she would change her mind. Just once I wanted her to care about what was important to me. Just once I wanted her to put her religion aside. But I knew that would never happen. Her religion would always be paramount, regardless of what misery it demanded I endure. I knew about the verses of the Quran that forbid Muslims to be friends with Jews and Christians or any nonbelievers.
